Looking at Student Work with an Equity Lens
It is clear all professions need protected time to focus on what equity means in their daily work. Educators may have participated in professional development sessions involving an examination of implicit biases or cross-cultural dialogue. Actual voices of students, sometimes represented through their work samples, are frequently absent in these sessions.

There are many methods in meaningfully considering student work in educator talk about equity. In this session, one particular discussion protocol will be used with an upper elementary social studies assessment. Although the content is specific, the protocol can be broadly applied to any work samples of any-aged student.
