Park Based Learning
The belief that students learn best when given control of their own learning is th-e guiding principle behind Park Based Learning, a new project which helps educators connect with curriculum and resources that allow them to use national parks as virtual and experiential classrooms. The approach focuses on classroom adaptations of inquiry-based techniques used by park staff to connect visitors to the nation's natural, cultural, and historic landscapes. Since visiting isn't always a possibility for schools and classes due to distance, time, and money, we have developed free resources to help connect teachers and their students virtually, resources that all attendees will leave with for use with their own students.

Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling
I completed my master's thesis on a specific type of comprehensible input called Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling. As a teacher, I had seen success when students were able to interact with predictable story structures, regardless of it it was in their native language. During the course of a four-week unit, I was able to not only see but document student growth in my high school Spanish 1 classroom using this type of comprehensible input teaching method.

Why are We Meeting? Purpose-First Agenda Construction
Why are We Meeting? Purpose-First Agenda Construction

“Why are we talking about _____?” A missing component of many leadership preparation programs is how to build meaningful agendas. Many leaders simply list topics, sometimes considering the sequence of the content. Educators have a low tolerance for time being wasted, thus it is imperative for leaders at all levels (teacher, campus, district) to use a productive method for creating agendas that are efficient and effective, characterized by equity and excellence. Affectionately called E4 meetings, they can have a positive impact on school culture rather than being negative forces.

But Do You Know Them? Relationship Strategies To Promote Equity and Access
But Do You Know Them? Relationship Strategies To Promote Equity and Access: We all cracked our knuckles, bit our lip, and took a deep breath from that "one" kid in the classroom. Often, at times, we immediately react to a student when they are "misbehaving," not listening, or refuse to participate. However, have we took the time to truly understand our kids? In this workshop, we will develop questions that will allow us to be vulnerable about our bias. We will brainstorm about the characteristics of the students that "keep us awake at night." From there we will group those students through trends and themes. We will then evaluate what makes our students successful in our classroom and observe the barriers that prevents that "one" kid from being successful. We will develop alternatives, together, that might remove the barriers to success for that "one" kid.

This professional learning session is designed to interrogate behaviors, beliefs, and ways of being (Elena Aguilar, 2019). Participants will dig into the “how” and “why” we must plan instruction using culturally responsive teaching practices - as a way to create equitable classrooms. Finally, participants will discuss perspectives and experiences to better understand how to intentionally reduce implicit bias and microaggressive behaviors, and increase positive interactions in our school environments. How can the Effective Schools Framework help you 'Prioritize Excellence'?
“How can the Effective Schools Framework help you 'Prioritize Excellence'?” That is just one of the many questions we’ll tackle during a panel discussion featuring leaders in the field that will be moderated by Laura McKean. Is your campus experiencing success with student outcomes at the rate you desire? Maybe you have an exceptional staff who are doing all the right things, but your results are still not fully reflected in their efforts. This is a common challenge that school leaders face as they strive for excellence. The solution you seek may lie in tweaking the systems and processes that you and your staff engage in daily. Our Elevating Success Initiative focuses on systems that use common language and highest-leverage school practices to support strategic improvement and growth. Join us for a panel discussion of District Coordinators of School Improvement and Campus Principals who found success in improving student outcomes through the utilization of the Effective Schools Framework. Urban Pedagogy
Urban Pedagogy
It is well known among transformational leaders in any district, there IS a difference between schools deemed as "regular" schools and those schools characterized by the state as "turn around schools." While transformational schools are provided with increased funding and resources, most of the time the schools are still left trying to figure out how to implement resources given. This is mainly due to those resources not being specifically designed to meet the need of school improvement environments.

In this session titled, "Urban Pedagogy" we discuss necessary timelines, professional and culture development needed in order to facilitate and improve school transformation. From new teachers to parents communities, transformation schools are unique in that everything we do (down to the last second) matters!

This session will address the following:

- Instructional leadership timeline
- Culture, Culture, Culture
- New Teacher Induction and Development
